The Grebmer family & Hotel Post
Hotel Post was built in the years from 1846 to 1850, at a time when travel through the region of South Tyrol was mainly done in horse-drawn carriages. The postal service was run by the Steyrer family, who also owned the “Gasthof zum Goldenen Löwen“, a traditional inn which sadly does not exist anymore today,
In 1840, the last daughter of the Steyrer family, who was married to the lawyer Joseph Ludwig von Grebmer, bought the “Sternbachgarten“ facilities where she constructed the building that is Hotel Post, complete with riding stables and garden facilities. It was her son Eduard, the regional chancellor of Tyrol, who rebuilt the second floor of the hotel completely.
The history of Hotel Post is full of spectacular stories and events. In 1886, even Emperor Franz Joseph stayed at the hotel in order to assist the military operations in Brunico/Bruneck and surroundings. We have dedicated the spacious, luxurious Kaiser Franz Josef Suite to this event.
The hotel in the center of Brunico/Bruneck has been run by the von Grebmer family for five generations. Just before the turn of the century, the old riding stable was torn down and the new hotel annex was built. The hotel was renovated from 2002 to 2004 and today boasts all the comforts expected of a high-quality modern hotel.
The original, themed architectural style of the hotel was specifically designed in order to make the hotel fit in with the rest of the romantic Old Town of Brunico/Bruneck. Come here and experience a great combination of tradition and modernity.
